MARSHALL BUILDING, LONDON — Welcome Week at LSE has flown by, with incoming students finding themselves inundated with talks to go to, events to attend, and clubs to join. However, as the buzz of welcome events have started to wear off, one student society has come under fire for its questionable marketing decisions.
Whilst most student groups opted for sweets or stickers as their freebie of choice, Star Wars society instead distributed wristbands emblazoned with ‘I Support The Empire.’
The ‘Empire’ in this case being the First Galactic Empire — the autocracy which served as the main antagonistic force of the original trilogy, characterised by (amongst other qualities) its use of excessive force and violence to enforce totalitarian rule.
One anonymous student and Star Wars fan found the wristbands “a bit weird,” adding that “they could have just, I dunno, gone for some Yoda stickers or something.”
Meanwhile, other student societies expressed confusion over how this memorabilia was even allowed to enter the building, citing the guidelines given by the SU prior to the event.
The Raccoon reached out to Star Wars society for their side of events, but the group has declined to comment.
